The Apex Structures Build Process: From First Call to Final Build

Building a pole barn or custom structure isn’t only about materials — it’s about having a clear plan, the right team, and a process that keeps things moving without surprises.

At Apex Structures, we don’t piece projects together as we go. We follow a defined process that covers design, engineering, permitting, and construction from start to finish.

Here’s what you can expect when you build with Apex.

Step 1: Consultation and Design

Every project starts with a conversation focused on how you plan to use the building.

We’ll walk through:

  • Building type (garage, shop, barn, or mixed-use)
  • Layout, size, and height
  • Site location and access
  • Features and future use
  • Budget and priorities

From there, we put together a custom design and a clear, itemized estimate. You’ll see exactly what’s included, along with options for upgrades like insulation, lean-tos, and windows.

No guesswork. No vague allowances.

Step 2: Site Review

Understanding the site early prevents problems later.

During a site review, we look at:

  • Access and equipment entry
  • Grade, drainage, and elevation
  • Building placement and orientation
  • Door locations and approach angles

For simpler projects, we can work from aerial maps and photos. For more complex builds, an on-site walkthrough gives you a much clearer plan going into construction.

Step 3: Engineering and Permitting

Once the design is approved, we move into the technical side of the project.

This includes:

  • Site plans and building layout
  • Structural engineering for loads, trusses, and foundation
  • Permit submittal and coordination with your city or county
  • Communication with reviewers to keep the process moving

This phase typically takes 2–6 weeks, depending on your jurisdiction and project scope.

Step 4: Site Prep and Foundation

With permits in place, we prepare the site for construction.

Depending on the project, this may include:

  • Pad grading and compaction
  • Excavation and trenching
  • Post holes or foundation layout
  • Concrete piers or slab installation

We match the foundation approach to your site conditions so the structure performs long-term, not only during the build.

Step 5: Framing and Structure Assembly

This is where the building starts to take shape.

  • Posts and columns are set
  • Trusses are installed
  • Purlins, girts, and bracing go in
  • Roofing and siding are completed

Most structures are framed and dried in within 1–2 weeks, depending on size and weather conditions.

Step 6: Doors, Finishing, and Final Walkthrough

The final phase brings everything together.

We complete:

  • Overhead door installation
  • Walk doors and windows
  • Lean-tos, porches, or additional features
  • Concrete slabs or aprons (if included)
  • Site cleanup and final walkthrough

You’ll receive a clear handoff, including warranty information, inspection approvals, and guidance for any next steps.
